The household of Andrew “Egiton” was recorded in the 1860 Federal Census of Plymouth, Windsor County, Vermont (pg. 219; dwelling #131; family #118; enum. June 6, 1860), as follows:
Andrew A. Edgerton, of Plymouth, Vermont, enlisted on August 9, 1862 for service in the Union Army. He served in E Company; 2nd U.S. Volunteer Sharpshooters Regiment. The company fought at the second battle of Bull Run, and at Antietam. Andrew Edgerton died of disease on December 21, 1862, probably in Virginia (see Roster of Vermont Volunteers During the War of the Rebellion 1861-66, 1892). Submit H. Edgerton, widow of Andrew A. Edgerton, applied for a widow’s pension on February 12, 1863, citing her husband’s service in the 2nd U.S. Sharpshooters Regiment (Co. E). No state of residence was listed on the application. Solomon Warren, “Gdn”, later applied for a minor’s pension (presumably on behalf of Andrew’s daughters Ellen and Emma) The latter application was dated March 5, 1867, and also cited Andrew A. Edgerton’s Civil War Service. No state of residence was listed on the application. The relationship of Mr. Warren to Andrew Edgerton (if any) is not known (see National Archives Pension Applications; Application #143371, Certificate #107354; and Application #12568, Certificate #1973). Andrew’s widow, “Submit Edgerton”, was remarried on May 29, 1866 at Woodstock, Vermont to Andrew Jackson Holt (1834 – 1908). At the time of the 1900 Federal Census, Andrew J. Holt and his wife, “Harriet S.” were residing in Plymouth. According to the enumeration, Harriet was the mother of five children, three of whom were still living. Harriet’s elder daughter, Emma D. (Edgerton) Thompson was recorded with her husband, James Thompson, in Bridgewater. The elder daughter, Ellen Lovena (Edgerton) Thompson, had died earlier in the year. Mrs. Harriet Submit (Ackley) Edgerton Holt died at Bridgewater, Vermont on September 6, 1902. She was buried beside her second husband at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Bridgewater, Vermont.
