Ariel Edgerton was born September 28, 1805 at Ariel Edgerton was married twice. His first wife, Almira Isabel Church. Almira’s parentage is not known at this time. According to the 1880 Federal Census enumeration of her son, Charles, Almira was born in the state of Vermont. Ariel and Almira are known to have had at least two children: a daughter, Elizabeth, born circa 1835; and a son, Charles Church, born April 17, 1841. The 1840 Federal Census (see below) indicates that Ariel and Almira may have had two other sons born between 1835 and 1840, although to date there is no evidence of their identites. of Randolph, 1 male “30 and under 40” (Ariel); 2 males “under 5 years” (sons ?); 1 female “50 and under 60” (mother Milly); 1 female “30 and under 40” (sister Amanda); 1 female “20 and under 30” (first wife Almira) and, 1 female “under 5 years” (daughter Elizabeth). Mrs. Almira Isabel (Church) Edgerton died on March 15,
1843, presumably at Randolph, Vermont.
She was buried at the Following Almira’s death, her daughter, Elizabeth, was adopted by Aaron Cleaveland of neighboring Brookfield, Vermont. Elizabeth was enumerated in Aaron’s household in the 1850 Federal Census of Brookfield, Orange County, Vermont as “Elizabeth E., aged 14, b. in Vermont”. Elizabeth died at Brookfield in 1854 and was buried at the Old Center Cemetery in Brookfield. Her gravestone was inscribed: “ELIZABETH EDGERTON / Adopted Daughter of / Aaron Cleaveland / DIED / Oct. 31, 1854 / AE 19 yrs”. Ariel and Almira’s son, Charles Church, later settled in Boston. He was married twice but did not have any children. Charles died at Boston on May 7, 1900. Ariel Edgerton was remarried in 1847 to Martha Matilda
Morrow. Martha’s parentage and
ancestry have not yet been investigated.
According to census records, she was born in Ariel and Martha (Morrow) Edgerton had five
children: two daughters, Sarah J. and
Mariah, and three sons, John, Henry and George. The younger daughter died at the age of two
weeks. The family resided in The household of “Uriah Edgerton” was recorded in the 1850 Federal Census of Salem, Washington County, New York (pg. 277; dwelling #43; family #451; enum. August 22, 1850), as follows:

Mrs. Martha (Morrow) Edgerton died on March 15, 1873,
“aged 56 years” – presumably at At the time of the 1880 Federal Census, Ariel Edgerton

previously researched in great detail.
The four surviving children by his second marriage were married and
had families. Sarah J. was married to
