Benjamin P. Edgerton, aged 21, of Hicksville, Ohio fought in the Spanish-American War.  He served as a private in Company M (Paulding), Second Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry (see The Official Roster of Ohio Soldiers in the War with Spain, 1898-99; Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; C.A.R.L. Library, 1916;  pg. 146).
