The Last Will and Testament of Bethiah Edgerton

  To all People whom it may concern.

  Know ye that I Bethiah Edgerton of Franklin, in the County of New London and State of Connecticut, being in a feeble state of health, and considering my own mortality, view it to be my Duty, while in my right mind and reason, to Dispose of my temporal Estate, in manner and form as follows (viz) –

  And 1st  After my just debts and funeral Charges are paid and a decent pair of Gravestones procured and erected – I will and bequeath to my Hond Mother Elisabeth Edgerton, the improvement of all my landed property during her natural life.

  2nd  I will and bequeath to my Sister Elisabeth Bentley Eight yards of black Lutestring together with the lining for a Gown, and silk to make it up – also a plaid Double Gown, and my best shirt, and my long silk Gloves, and my largest check’d apron, a pair of tow sheets, and a pair of Pillow cases, my best Bonnet and silk Shawl and Pillion and black silk Handkerchief.

  3rd  I will and bequeath to my Sister Asenath Edgerton my Green shirt and my Calico Bed-quilt, and my oldest Pewter-platter, and one quart Bason and a pint porringer and my black silk Cloak, and my seventh best pair of sheets.

  4th  I will and bequeath to my Niece Margaret Bentley my best Bed, bolster and pillows and underbed, one pewter platter, one quart Bason, one pint bason, and three pairs of my best sheets, Two pair of Pillow cases, and a Black and white Coverlid, a black and white check’d Blanket, a linen apron checked four and four, my best shirt, and black Silk-half Handkerchief.

  5th  It is my pleasure that my Niece, Bethiah Bentley, should have my other featherbed, bolster and pillows, together with the underbed, Bedstead and Cord – and my three next best pair of sheets, three pair of Pillow cases, two best Coverlids, white Bed-blanket, best table-Cloth and four towels, my Gold Neck-lace, gold Ear-nubs, and silver shoe Buckles, my warming pan, small Kettle and spider, together with my Chest, Great Chair and Cushion, and all the remaining part of my pewter, my light-coloured chintz Gown, a linen apon check’d four and four, my 2nd best shirt, my Great wheel and foot wheet and Clock reel – and black silk Hood.

  6th  I will and Bequeath to Margaret Bentley, Bethiah Bentley and their Brother Eleazer Bentley Junr Jointly, after my Hond Mother’s Decease, all the Landed Estate, either given or left me by my Hond Father.

  7th  I will to my Brother Zebulon Edgerton, One Dollar.

  8th  All the remaining part of my temporal Estate I wish to have equally divided among my Sisters.

  9th  I hereby appoint my Brother Eleazer Bentley Executor to this, my last will and Testament –
