Dan Edgerton Jr. was born at Monson, Massachusetts on January 16, 1806, the first child of Dan Edgerton Sr. and his second wife.  He was the second child of that name, having an elder brother, Dan, who died in infancy.

Very little is known about the life and family of Dan Edgerton.  Circa 1825 – 1830, he removed to Vernon, Connecticut with his father, Dan Sr., who died soon afterwards.  Dan was married at Mansfield, Connecticut on March 22, 1831 to Ruby Saunders (Mansfield Vital Records, Book 2, pg. 52).  According to the marriage record, both Dan and Ruby were “of Mansfield”.  Ruby’s parentage has not been investigated.  There is no evidence that Dan and Ruby had any children.

Dan Edgerton Jr. was probably the “Dan Edgerton, laborer, aged 41, b. Connecticut”, who was recorded in the 1850 Federal Census of Windham, Windham County, Connecticut, residing in the household of Wm. Johnson. (pg. 424; dwelling #58; family #62; enum. August 27, 1850).

Dan Edgerton Jr. was probably the “Daniel Edgerton, farm laborer, aged 65, b. Massachusetts”, who was recorded in the 1870 Federal Census of Lebanon, New London County, Connecticut, residing in the household of Newell Marsh (pg. 146; dwelling #403; family #421; enum. August 3, 1870).
