the 1860 Federal Census of Willington, Tolland County, Connecticut (pg. 626;
dwelling #861; family #868; enum. July 2, 1860), as follows:
Daniel Edgerton died on February 9, 1874,
presumably at Willington, Connecticut.
He was buried at the South Yard Cemetery in Tolland, where his
parents, grandparents and numerous other relatives were also buried. Daniel left a Last Will and Testament, dated February 17, 1872, in which
he left his estate outright to his wife “Sarah S. Edgerton”, without
mentioning any of his children.
Daniel’s brother, William L. Edgerton, was named as executor of the
will, which was proved at Willington, Connecticut on February 18, 1874. Daniel’s widow, Sarah, was remarried on February
24, 1875 to his elder brother, William Lathrop Edgerton. She was recorded together with William in
the 1880 Federal Census, at which time they were residing in Willington,
Tolland County, Connecticut. William
died a year later, on June 9, 1811. Sarah S. (Starr) Edgerton died at Wethersfield,
Connecticut on November 8, 1889, aged 74 years. According to the record of her death (Wethersfield VR 6:498),
she was a widow, aged 77 years [sic], and had been born in Webster,
Massachusetts [sic?], the daughter of Darius Starr. Her residence was listed as Wethersfield, and the cause of
death was given as “Plurisy & Heart failure”. Sarah was buried beside her first husband at the South Yard
Cemetery in Tolland, Connecticut. Her
gravestone there records her as “Sarah S. Starr, wife of Daniel Edgerton”. |
