The parentage of Frank E. Edgerton has not been conclusively established.  Census records (see below) vary regarding the date of Frank’s birth and the various census enumerations cited below indicate that Frank’s father was born in either New York or Vermont, and that his mother was born in New York.  According to an obituary notice published in the Flint Journal (see below), Frank was born August 16, 1852 at Smith’s Crossing, Michigan, the son of “Mr. and Mrs. John Edgerton”.

Frank Edgerton was married in Savannah, Carroll County, Illinois on May 26, 1900 to Sarah Miles.  According to the 1900 Federal Census, Sarah was born in Michigan in June 1877; beyond this, nothing further has been uncovered regarding her parentage or ancestry.  Frank and Sarah were issued a marriage license in Cook County, Illinois.  A notice of the issuance was published in The Chicago Daily Times on May 27, 1900.  According to the listing, Frank was aged 45 and Sarah was aged 32 [sic].  Both were presumably residents of Chicago.

Frank and Sarah (Miles) Edgerton had two sons:  Ross Miles, born at Savannah, Illinois on September 16, 1901; and VanDyke M., born at Flint, Michigan on March 20, 1904.  Frank’s obituary (see below) also mentions two additional children (Abraham and Margaret) of whom there is currently no other documentation.  Mrs. Sarah (Miles) Edgerton had apparently died prior to April 1910, when her husband, Frank, was listed as a widower in the Federal Census of that year.

The household of “Frank Egerton” was recorded in the 1900 Federal Census of Savanna City (Ward 3), Carroll County, Illinois (pg. 247; dwelling #427; family #442; enum. June 1900), as follows:
