Giles Edgerton was born at Nathaniel Goodwin’s Descendants of Thomas Olcott: One of the First Settlers of Hartford, Connecticut (see below), provides the following entry for Chloe (Olcott) Edgerton: “CHLOE OLCOTT, daughter of Joseph Olcott, of Hartford (Con.) married Giles Edgerton. They dwelt in the City of New York, where he died. Children’s names unknown to me.” Giles Edgerton was recorded as a head of household in
the 1800 Federal
Census of Hartford, 2 males “of 26 and under 45” (Giles and ?); 1 male “under 10 years of age” (son ?); and, 1 female “of 16 and under 26” (wife Chloe). The household of Giles Edgerton was recorded in the 1810 Federal Census
of Hartford, 1 male “of 26 and under 45” (Giles); 1 male “of 10 and under 16” (son ?); 1 male “under 10 years of age” (son ?); and, 1 female “of 26 and under 45” (wife Chloe). By 1820, Giles had removed with his family to The household of Giles “Edgarten” was recorded in the 1820 Federal Census of New York City (Ward 8), New York County, New York (pg. 38) with the following enumeration: 1 male “of 26 and under 45” (Giles – actually aged 48); 1 male “of 10 and under 16” (son ?); 2 males “under 10 years of age” (sons ?); 1 female “of 26 and under 45” (wife Chloe); and, 1 female “under 10 years of age” (daughter ?). Giles “Egerton” died at Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Chloe (Olcott) Edgerton returned to Hartford, Connecticut, where she died in July of 1834. The following notice of her death was published in the Connecticut Courant (Hartford, Connecticut) on Monday, July 21, 1834: “DEATHS… In this town, Mrs. Chloe Edgerton, aged 57.” To date, there has been no progress in tracking any of the children of Giles and Chloe (Olcott) Edgerton.
