Henry Clay Edgerton was born at Troy, New York,
the son of Oliver and Hannah (Converse) Edgerton. He was raised in Troy and Brooklyn, where
his parents settled in the 1860’s. Upon
his maturity, Henry removed to San Francisco, California. Henry C. Edgerton was married at San Francisco on
March 25, 1874 to Mrs. Josephine (Blood) Stoddard, widow of Samuel Burr
Stoddard of Laihaina Maui in the Sandwich Islands. Josephine was a native of Brooklyn and had
two children (Ada and Florence) by her first marriage. The following marriage announcement was published
in the San Francisco Daily Morning Call on March 26, 1874: “EGERTON/STODDARD – In this city, March 25, by the Rev. Dr. Hugh Smith Carpenter, Henry C. Egerton to Josephine Stoddard” The household of Henry
