The Distribution of the Dower to Mrs. Bethiah Edgerton

 

dated:

April 11, 1817; Coventry, Tolland Co., CT.

 

 

   The Subscribers being by the Hon. Court of Probate for the District of Hebron appointed Distributors to set out to the widow Bethiah Edgerton he dower or thirds in all the real and personal estate of Hezekiah Edgerton late of Coventry deceased Agreeable to an order from said Court have proceeded as follows (viz)

   Set out to said widow the use and improvement of all the upright part of the house except the buttery at the Northwest corner and the cellar under the west room with the wood yard at the East end of the house and the west part of the barn except the stable at the Southwest corner with half the barn floor and the west half of the yard with convenient passways round the barn.  Also one piece of land on the North side of the highway containing 127 rods bounded as follows, Beginning by the highway 12r.10l. East of the southwest corner of said North lot thence N. 28o W. 6 rods as the wall now stands thence S. 24o W. 5 rods by the wall thence N. 81o W. 3r.8l. to the West end of the barn house thence 2r.9l. by the corn house and wall to the highway thence by the highway to the first bound including the North Pasture in the Garden standing near the wall, likewise a piece of woodland on the North part of the lot bounded Easterly and Northerly on J. Kingsbury West on Joseph Edgerton South from Joseph Edgerton’s corner to said Kingsbury’s corner containing 3 acres and 13 rods.  One other piece of land on the South side of the highway Beginning at the Northwest corner of said lot by the highway thence S. 5o W. 31r. thence S. 62o E. 22r. as the fence or wall now stands thence N. 2r. thence S. 60o E. 19r.15l. by the fence thence S. 23o W. 30r. thence S. 16o E. 13r. to a Cherry tree thence S. 56o E. 17r.8l. to Asahel Edgerton’s line thence in said Edgerton’s line to the highway thence by the highway to the first bound containing 20 acres and 83 rods.  Also one piece Meadow beginning at a walnut tree by the river at Nathaniel Fitch’s corner thence by the river to a large white oak tree thence to the first bound containing 3 acres and 28 rods.

The Distribution of the Estate of Hezekiah Edgerton II

 

dated:

April 19, 1817; Coventry, Tolland Co., CT.

 

 

   The Subscribers being appointed by the Hon. Court of Probate for the District of Hebron Distributors of the estate of Hezekiah Edgerton late of Coventry deceased have agreeable to our appointment and the order of said Court proceeded as follows (viz)

   Set out to Azel Edgerton 8 acres of land on the East side of the farm bounded East of said Azel and land reserved by the Administrators to defray expenses South of hop River being 5r.7l. wide a parallel line the whole length of the farm both side of the highway.

   Set out to Frelove Marshal about 9 & ¼ acres 5r.20l. wide parallel lines with land set out to Azel Edgerton.

   Set out to Bethiah Metcalf about 9 & ¼ acres 5r.20l. wide parallel lines with the above.

   Set out to Anna Ellis about 7 & ¾ acres 4r.20l. wide parallel lines with the above with the barn thereon standing exclusive of widows half.

   Also set out to Levi Edgerton about 5 & ½ acres 3r.12l. wide parallel as above.

   Set out to Joseph Edgerton about 14 acres 8r. wide with the dwelling house thereon standing together with the hog house and [---] with convenient passways round the same.

   Set out to Lucy Lothrop about 7 & ½ acres 5r. wide parallel as above.

   Set out to Sybil Fitch about 8 acres 6r. wide parallel lines with the above.

   Set out to Temperance Williams about 10 acres 8r. wide except at the river parallel with the rest.

   Set out to Lucretia Brewster the rest of the farm more or less say about 9 & ½ acres 15½ rods wide at the widest place.

   Reserving to all the above named heirs the privilege of passing across each others shares and the widows thirds in the most convenient place where it will do the least damage, also reserving all the grain on the ground for them that sowed it or own it.
