James O. Edgerton was born at Cabot, Vermont in the year 1816, the youngest son of Asa Edgerton and his first wife, Dorcas Kimball.  James was raised in Cabot; details on his life are few.

The death of “James O. Edgerton, 40 years” was noted in “Deaths Reported at City Registrar’s Office for the week ending November 22”, as published in The Medical World:  A Journal of Univeral Medical Intelligence (Smith, J.V.C. & Smith, Edward Sutton; Boston, Massachusetts: Darnell & Moore and George Coolidge; 1857; Volume 1, pg. 264).

James was buried at Long Meadow Cemetery in the same plot as his father, Asa Edgerton, and step-mother, Jane (Underhill) Edgerton.  The gravestone inscription there records his death on November 19, 1856, “aged 40 years”.
