The following obituary for Jay Barton Edgerton was published in The New York Times on October 13, 1942:

 

ROCHESTER, N. Y., Oct. 12 – Jay Barton Edgerton, secretary and director of the Brewster Crittenden Company, wholesale grocers, died last evening at his home in Brighton.  He was 70 years old.  Born in Canandaigua, Mr. Edgerton was employed by the grocery firm when 18 years old.  He remained there fifty-two years.  He leaves a widow, a son, Barton Wilcox Edgerton, and two sisters, Mrs. Alonzo H. Weston of Yonkers and Mrs. Robert Blackburn of New York.”
