Leander Edgerton was born May 27, 1806 at Leander Edgerton was married twice. His first wife was named Dorcas Bacon. Beyond this, very little is know of her
family or ancestry. It is estimated
that she was born circa 1810; and in later census records of her children it
is consistently reported that she was born in Leander and Dorcas (Bacon) Edgerton reportedly had
six children: Cyrus, born in 1828, who
married Janette ---- and resided in Erieville (Hamilton Township), New York;
Wealthy L., born in 1831, who married Dr. Charles M. White and lived in
Georgetown, New York; Luman, who married first, Sarah Augusta Daggett, and
second, Sarah Jane Ellison; Candace; Jonathan, who died in 1874; and Frank,
who was adopted by the Webster family and lived in Pooleville, New York. The children were presumably born at Leander Edgerton and his cousin, also named
Leander, were both listed as heads of household in the 1830 Federal Census
of Hamilton, Madison County, New York – on the
same page of the census roll (pg. 307).
Leander’s household was recorded with the following enumeration: 1 male “20 and under 30” (Leander); 2 males “under 5 years of age” (son Cyrus and ?); and, 1 female “20 and under 30” (wife Dorcas). The household of Leander Edgerton was recorded in
