Leander Edgerton was born January 14, 1844 at Sugar Creek
Township, Vigo County, Indiana,
the youngest son of Cyrus and Roxana (Wilson) Edgerton. He was raised in Vigo
County and resided there the
majority of his lifetime, with the exception of a few years in neighboring Clark County, Illinois. He made his living as a farmer.
Leander Edgerton served in the 115th Indiana
Infantry Regiment (Company H) during the Civil War. He enlisted as a private on August 6, 1863,
giving his residence as Putnam
County, Indiana. He served for six months and was mustered
out at Indianapolis, Indiana on February 25, 1864. Leander later applied for a Civil War
Invalid Pension on December 9, 1889 as a resident of Indiana.
His widow, “Celia Edgerton”, applied for a Widow’s Pension on March 5,
1918, also a resident of Indiana

child: a son, Edward Lenhart, born at Clark County, Illinois
in April 1866. Mrs. Eliza (Wilkinson)
Edgerton probably died soon after the birth of her only child. No record of the family was been found in
