The following obituary notice for Loami Edgerton
was published in the Boonville Herald on April 19, 1907 (transcription
courtesy of Ms. Linda Glover):
“WITH THOSE WHO MOURN…Friday evening, April 17 [sic], at
his home near Leyden Station occured the death of Loami Edgerton at the age
of 58 years. Mr. Edgerton had been in poor health for a number of years and
appeared no worse than usual until about a week before his death. The immediate cause of death was
appendicitis. An operation was to have been performed by Dr. F. J. Douglas of
Utica,
assisted by Drs. Bartlett and Perry of this village, but he expired before
this could be done. Loami Edgerton was
born January 11, 1849 in Jefferson county
and was a son of Daniel and Sophronia Johnson Edgerton and with his parents
went to Leyden Station when about two years of age. When a young man he went to Iowa to reside and
while there married Miss Mina Roath. Upon the death of his wife he returned
to Leyden Station where he had since resided.
He is survived by his mother, one daughter, Mabel Edgerton of Leyden
Station; three sisters, Mrs. E. J. Talcott and Mrs. Orville Hall of Boonville
and Mrs. D. Daniels of Leyden Station. The funeral was held Sunday at 1 pm
from his late home, Rev T Jessup officiating.
Interment was made in Talcottville
Cemetery.”
