At the time of the 1880 Federal Census, Lucius Edgerton was residing in the household of Robert St. John in Mendon, Clayton County, Iowa (pg. 475; dwelling #225; family #233; enum. June 22-23, 1880).  He was enumerated as “Lucius Edgerton, boarder, widower, aged 49, farmer, b. in NY, both parents b. in NY”.  Lucius was still residing with the St. John family at the time of the 1900 Federal Census (Mendon Twp., Clayton County, Iowa; pg 212;dwelling #231; family #232; enum. June 20, 1900).  He was enumerated as “Luther Egerton [sic], boarder, b. June 1829, aged 70, widower, b. in NY, both parents b. in NY”.  His occupation was listed as “day laborer”.
