The following obituary for Richard Bristol was published in the Western New Yorker on August 10, 1876:

 

“Mr. Richard Bristol died August 7, 1876 in Gainesville, aged 96 years.  Mr. Bristol was one of three brothers, who came to this county while it was still a wilderness and was closely identified with early history. The wife of his youth died some years ago.  He married again, when over seventy years of age.  He leaves a wife and three sons.”
