William H. Edgerton, “aged 19”, enlisted at Smithville, New
York on August 13, 1862 and was mustered into the
114th New York Infantry Regiment, Company H, as a private. He was transferred into U.S. Veteran
Reserve Corps Regiment on September 30, 1863.
According to his gravestone at the Ives Settlement
Cemetery, William died
on July 4, 1864, although the location of his death has not been determined.
