William J. Edgerton, son of Andrew and Phebe Jane (Smith) Edgerton.

William Edgerton, “of Wisconsin”, enlisted on January 1, 1862 for service in the Union Army.  He served as a private in the 3rd Wisconsin Light Artillery Regiment, and died at Corinth, Mississippi on June 29, 1862.   William’s elder brother, Stafford  R. Edgerton, also fought in the 3rd L.A. Regiment (see Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers: War of the Rebellion, 1886).

 

William’s mother, “Phoebe J. Edgerton”, applied for a Civil War pension on April 9, 1863.  The application cited the service of her son, “William J. Edgerton” in the 3rd Wisconsin Light Artillery Regiment (see National Archives Pension Applications; Application #17555, Certificate #144155).
