Children:
Zela (aka. “Zeley”) Edgerton was born in Wallingford, Vermont on August 18, 1809, the youngest son of Robert and Anna (Bull) Edgerton. He grew up in Wallingford, and was fifteen years old when his father died in 1824. His uncle, Elijah Bull, was named guardian for Zela and his younger sister, Elsie. Zela was known variously as Zela, Zeley, and Greeley. His headstone lists him as “Zeley Edgerton”, as do many deed and land records of the time. Zela Edgerton was married on June 4, 1840 (presumably in Wallingford) to Miss Elsie I. Colvin, of Rutland, Vermont. Elsie was the daughter of Benajah and Huldah (Irish) Colvin and was born in Rutland on June 5, 1817. Zela and Elsie Edgerton had two children: twins, Allen H. and Anna H., born in Wallingford on March 29, 1842. Zela was a farmer and laborer, and lived on West Hill, on the homestead where his grandfather, Capt. Daniel Edgerton, had settled sixty years earlier. The farm of “Z. Edgerton” was labelled on the 1875 Map of Wallingford, on the East Side of West Hill Road (District 1), adjacent to the residence of “Mrs. Gordon”. The farm later passed to Zela's son, Allen, who was reportedly the last Edgerton to occupy it. The household of “Zeley Edgerton” was recorded in the 1840 Federal Census of Wallingford, Rutland County, Vermont (pg. 163), with the following enumeration: 1 male “30 and under 40” (Zela); and, 1 female “20 and under 30” (wife Elsie). The household of Zela Edgerton was recorded in the 1850 Federal Census of Wallingford, Rutland County, Vermont (pg. 321; dwelling #335; family #343; enum. August 10, 1850), as follows:
The household of “Greeley Edgerton” was recorded in the 1860 Federal Census of Wallingford, Rutland County, Vermont (pg. 435; dwelling #536; family #536; enum. --- 27, 1860), as follows:
The household of “Zelah Edgerton” was recorded in the 1870 Federal Census of Wallingford, Rutland County, Vermont (pg. 790; dwelling #409; family #421 enum. July 11, 1870), with the following enumeration:
