Captain Adam Winsell's Company, War of 1812


Adam Winsell was a captain under Colonel Ewen Allison, General George Doherty from 10 June 1814 to 18 May 1814; the original term was 6 months, but the unit served as such for only 4 months and 22 days. Pay was $8 per month for privates, $10 for corporals, $11 for sergeants, $8 and $20 for ensigns, $25 for 2nd Lieutenant, $30 for first Lieutenant, and $40 for the Captain. Although the official start date was 10 June 1814, two men deserted the prior day. The transcription and notes are from Roberta Estes.
