The Jacob
Shuff Walker Bible has been unknown to researchers
for many decades. His daughter, Lizzie (Walker) Click,
indicated in Annie
Walker Burns's 1929 book that her sister, Mahala
(Walker) Janeway, had had the Bible, but since Mahala
had died, Lizzie assumed that her son Charlie had it.
Thanks to someone who visited this Web site, the Bible
has been located where expected, belonging to one of
Charlie's children, Jean Fox. Tim Walker met with her
in Tennessee and scanned the Bible on 17 May 2008.
Some notes:
In the scan of the title page, the date of the Bible
was cut off at the bottom; the date does still exist
on the original and is 1835, which is consistent with
an Internet search which suggests that the stereotyper
was active primarily in the 1830s.
The Bible was submerged in a flood and has some
damage.
The birth date here for Jacob himself is contradicted
by Lizzie Click, citing this Bible specifically as
being off by one day.
Dates are included for some members of the family
of sons John Davis Walker and Andrew Calvin Walker.
The Andrew Walker portion does not appear to be
contemporaneous; despite the dates for the infants
in the Bible, normal timing would suggest, as other
sources do, that the children were born a year earlier.
