Adam De Cailly

Alive in 1215. The Pipe Rolls mention him as, in about 1206,accounting
for ?5for licence to plead before King John touching dowryof wife of
Michael de Poinings. The case was to determine inheritancefrom his father
(ie a case of "admensuration") in relation to hismother's dower in
Bradenham, Denver and Ryston, Norfolk. There was asimilar plea between
Adam and Margery in 1232, and Adam had a fine in1239 of land in
Bradenham, possibly in settlement of the claim.
1215 King John forbade Hervy Belet to receive to the king's peace,until
further direction, Adam and others: Adam had evidently joinedbarons'
rebellionagainst John
Gave some land to younger brothers: at Hecham to Roger and atMassingham
to Elias, and manor of Owby to Sir Hugo
1227 Adam and other accusedRalph de Fulk of wrongful disseisin
oftenement in Great Ryburgh and won theircase.
From 1227 to 1230 Adam was Justice commissioned to take certainassizesof
"novel disseisin" in Norfolk.
1230 One of keepers of seaports of Norfolkunder Earl of Warenne
With his wife was party to plea of land in Shute, Gloucsin 1231-2.Held
half a fee there from John le Brun in 1235-6.
1240 Letters close of 14 August show Adam de Kaylli holding 4
knights'fees in Norfolk in the honour of the late Earl William of Warenne
whodied in 1240
1242-3 Held 1 fee in Hilborough and 1 in Cranwick

Roger de Cantelupo appointed Thomas de Gerbodesham his attorneyagainst
Adam de Kailly in aplea of fishery
"Master Roger de Cantilupo, keeper of the heir of William deFrancheville,
appeared by his attorney for the fourth day against Adamde Kayllyin a
plea as to why he came by force of arms into thefishery of the aforesaid
heir in Echeburg and Rugham, which heir is inthe custody of the said
master Roger, and fished thein contrary tojustice, in as far as he had no
commonsin the aforesaid fishery onthe day on which the aforesaid William
the fatherof the said heirdied &c.; and he had made many defaults, so
that it had beenorderedthe sheriff to distrain him by his lands and
chattells; and thesheriff reported that he ahd distrained him by his
ploughs. Andthereofre, as before, let him distrain him anew by his lands
andchattells, to attend in a month from Hilary &c.; and the sheriff
