1). Barent Egbert (Barney) came to New Amsterdam, 4/16/1663, from Schutterop, Germany with wife and 2 ch., ages 1 & 3yrs., on the ship ‘Spotted Cow.’ m. 11/1657, Aechji Albert, from Emderlandt. On 4/1/1655 Solomon LaChair’s wife hired him, in Netherlands, to work for her husband as tailor in New Amsterdam. He is recorded as alderman in New Amsterdam, 4/13/1657. (possibly the trip on the Spotted Cow with his family was his second voyage to New Amsterdam) on assignment roll of British 16675, on 8/1/1678 he bought woodland called ‘Kruypel Bosch.’ He was able to sign his name to documents. On assignment rolls of Breuklen, 9/1676 with 1 poll, 1 cow, & 3 morgans of land totaling 68£. (See Section C for Barent Egbert Family Outlines)

Govert Gerrits Egbert (Gerret Meyndertszen) (Godfrey Gerard) also called Sanders or Sanderzen (which could refer to his occ.), b. 4/1-4/1641 in Friesland, Netherlands, Came to New Amsterdam on the ‘Bontecoe’ (Spotted Cow), one of the many ships owned bye East Indies Co. for purpose of bringing goods & passengers to New Netherlands, and listed in the registry as a farmer’s servant. In 5/9/1661 he bought land with Jan Tunise Van Dyke to build a sawmill on stream at ‘Gemoenepae, in Bergen Co., NJ. He made his mark on documents. He took an oath of allegiance under Eng. Commissioners in Elizabethtown, NJ in 1673 and pd. taxes in 1685 in the same town. m. twice, 1st – Harmentji Harmens, res. Flushing, Long Is., NY, 2nd – 1674, Femmetje (Jaepji) Jans, Richmond, Staten Is., NY. Homestead could still be seen in 1964. he was also said to be a res. of Esopus, NY. ‘Gerret’ was present but escaped at the massacre of 1663 at Wiltwyck, NY.
