C. James Egbert (1772-9/19/1847) came from Staten Is. in 1796 to Warren Co., NJ, m. Rachel Bray (1774-6/16/1860), dau. of Thomas & Elizabeth (Bowlby) Bray. James build sm. house & ran country store then opened tannery. He bought land from Andrew Bray, 4 tracts, & built a fine stone country house across from church. Bishop Ashbury preached in Egbert home until in 1844 a new stone church was erected & given the name of Mt. Bethel, or Egbert Church. Most of family bur. in Egbert Cem. beside church. James was a tall, clean-shaven man with a friendly smile. Justice of the Peace of Co., 1813, 1818, & in Warren Co. in 1825-6. c) William Appleby Egbert (9/20/1917-3/20/1985) b. Plattsburg, Nassau Co., NY, lr. 11552 (Hempstead, Nassau, NY) SS#097-12-7588 (NY) grad. Fort Schuyler Merchant Marine Academy, NY, & served in Amer. Merchant Marine in WWII as youngest chief engineer to have served. After war con’t. working on large boiler facilities, m. Amelia Krael (11/25/1821-2/13/1987) lr. 11552 (Hempstead, Nassau, NY), SS# 128-44-3060 (NY), dau.of Frank & Veronica (Kupacak) Krael, (both b. in Bohemia, of Bellaire, Pultney twp., Belmont Co., OH. Her mother b. 1892 & father b. 1890, occ. millworker.) William settled in West Hempstead, Long Is., NY, where he d., Episcopalian. (See Story Section)

Germany) & Elizabeth Pall (b. in NY, of Hungarian descent) (Adolph’s father was owner of construction co. in Bavaria who built castles, etc. conscripted in WWI and d. in France, bur. in Verdun, France.) res. since 6/1981, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada. She works on the family history.

6. James Egbert (6/1808-1847) m. 12/30/1829, Mary Vliet, dau or William Vliet. James applied for appt. of Daniel Axford as guardian to his minor ch., in June term Warren Co. court in 1843. William & Rachel later pd. to be released.
