I. ---Wright, d. pre1819, m.  Elizabeth ---, who remar. 12/1/1819, Caversall, Straffordshire, England,  Samuel Cooper, a preacher & nail maker in 1837. She was not in good health in 1837, but was still living in 1851 in England. She had brothers & sisters in America as well as sons, Thomas & Sampson Wright with their families. Straffordshire, Eng., both bur. Zion Cem., Sandy Lake Twp., Mercer Co., PA. 3. Alexander Wright (8/21/1839-1926) m. 1865,  Mary L. Geibner (1841-1916) dau.of Augustus & Nancy (Carmichael) Giebner. Lived in Raymilton & Blairsville, PA. When in Raymilton they had a farm of 110 acres. He had a limited ed. & at early age he took father’s place as head of family. In 1865 he was a farmer in Venango Co., PA, & becoming a millionaire and leaving his money to his daughter & for monuments in Blairsville, PA. a. Elizabeth Wright, m. ---Gregory, a wireless operator & builder, He was seen fixing a roof in advanced years.
4.  George W. Wright (7/19/1841-2/22/1921) m. 1864,  Rozetta Carroll (1842-1917) dau. of David & Elizabeth (Alcorn) Carroll. George served in Co. G, 10th PA Vol., Civil War, ed. in common school., Mercer Academy Thickson Academy, & Allegheny College. He began teaching at 16 yrs. old to pay expenses at academies & taught in TN & CK in 1859-60. He was in the south when John Brown led raid on Harpers Ferry. On return from war he engaged in oil business at Petroleum Centre, Venango Co., PA, helped est. the Sandy Lake Car Manufacturing Co., while there he was app’ted clerk to co. commissioner & help post til 1873 when elected co. recorder. While at that post he was app’ted. superintendent of the Mercer Soldier’s Orphan School. Elected to state senate 1876 serving 1 term. In 1877 he was app’ted super. of Mt. Joy, PA Soldier’s Orphans School & in 1883 the schools of McAllisterville & Chester Springs. He founded bank in Mercer, PA, founded water works & associated with first Reznor gas stove. Bank name was Farmers & Mechanics National Bank until merged with Mercer Co. Trust Co. He had  numerous business interests, most of which were successful. In Civil War was under Brig. Conrad F. Jackson, Co. G, 10th PA Vol., Reynold’s div. of 3rd Corp., Army of VA, 3rd Brig. at 2nd Battle of Bull Run. He was said to be arrogant, self-centered, bigoted & hard to live with. 5.  Richard R. Wright (1844-6/27/1928) m. 1880, Clara Shaffer (1858-1940) res. North Erie St., Mercer, PA. He was ed. at Millbrook Academy & later in Youngstown, OH, where he ran away to join the Squirrel Rifles of OH, serving at time of Morgan’s raid. He became involved in oil speculation, partner with Lorenzo Foster in stock breeding & the Sandy Lake Ice Co. in 1882. At one time cornered market on railroad ties. He was in great competition with his brother George, breaking each other many times over only to become millionaires again. He was a charter member of the Solid Comfort Fishing Club, traveled around the world to fish. Began career as clerk in store of Squire James Brown & Sam Newkirk at Sandy Lake, coming to Mercer ca. 1872 to enter the store of Z. X. Smith. Later in shoe business with John Mowery as Mowery & Wright, and with Herman Frankel as Frankel & Wright, Clothiers. At that time he was assoc. with the Soldier’s Orphan School. About 1901 he was in lumber business with B.L. Runkle & in 1916 est. lumber firm of R.R. Wright & Co. with Leon Blatt. He was last survivor of men who erected the Mercer Mausoleum. Director of 1st Natl. Bank of Mercer and in 1881 became pres. on d. of A. J. McKean. He was oldest member of the Meth. Ep. Church at his d., last surviving member of his immediate family. Clara was studying to be a missionary when Richard was courting her. Then she was assigned to be missionary in Africa & accepted the assignment. Richard decided he should see her to the boat in NY. When he got there he decided he was not going back home without her, so he stayed on the boat to Africa without luggage or preparation but presumably with money. While on the boat he courted her & she finally agreed to marry him when they got to Africa & they both came back. She never was a missionary. (See Wright Story Section)
6. John S. Wright (Jack) (1844-1901) m. Matilda Wright (1848-5/5/1925) dau. of Sampson & Nancy (Egbert) Wright. She d. at family home in Sandy Lake, Mercer Co., PA, both bur. Zion Cem., Sandy Lake, Mercer Co., PA (See Matilda Wright further in this section)

c. Minnie M. Wright (1873-1943) m. 1890,  Lowry M Guilinger M.D. (10/2/1868-11/14/1951) bur. Maple Grove Cem., Andover, OH. They moved to Andover in 1900 & he set up practice, purchased Andover Hotel and ran it 1913-1949. Owned Hamiltonian winner of 1939, “Peter Astra” & had stable of 15 trotters. member Andover Meth. Ch., Dr’s cane & trophy now on display at Andover Public Library. He was a country Dr. who would treat all & take payments in produce, services etc., well loved in the town. Minnie was a very large woman with a kind heart. (See Wright Story Section)

9.  Thomas J. Wright Jr. (12/6/1849-8/22/1907) b. Worth Twp., Mercer Co., PA, m. 1879, Eliza Jane Egbert (6/1/1849-8/13/1937) dau. of John Nixon & Ann (Fowler) Egbert. Thomas was crippled since boyhood with rheumatism, d. of stroke, b. on homestead he still owned in 1888. Engaged in farming & dealing in wool & livestock etc. First man in Mercer Co. to own & raise thoroughbred Hereford cattle & well known real estate agent in New Castle, PA where he moved in 1897. Repub., justice of the peace 1878-88, member Epworth Meth. Ep. Church, New Castle, PA, bur. Graceland Cem., New Castle, PA (See Wright Story Section) (See John Nixon Egbert Family Outline)

c. George Egbert Wright (3/13/1882-3/19/1908) also suffered from rheumatism, went to AL for cure but d. at home 3 weeks later of uraemic poisoning at 293 Pittsburg St., New Castle, PA, was member of Home Guard, occ. steel worker, bur. Graceland Cem., New Castle, PA
d. John Alexander Wright (Alex) (10/4/1883-10/19/1932) m. 11/23/1905, Theresa Elizabeth Dean (Tress) (10/1/1883-1971) dau. of L. C. Dean of New Castle, PA. When m. they eloped to Pittsburgh, PA & on return their friends had a horseless carriage drive them thru the business district with sleigh bells. He was 1st employed in a steel plant. About 1908 had store on Pittsburg St., New Castle, PA. Later had 6-story business with groceries on main floor & apartments above, a restaurant & sporting goods store beside it came later, located at 334 E. Washington St., New Castle, PA, res. in same building. He got his start from his uncle, Richard, in a trust to be repaid to the family after Richard’s d. He was a member Presby. church, community leader. His funeral was one of the largest in city at that time, judges & doctors as pallbearers. Tress later moved to State College, PA to be with her dau. and family.
1) George Edward Wright (Ted) (10/8/1905-1937) m. 1/1937, Gertrude Wolf, no ch. Ted a flamboyant, good-looking man, played semi-pro basketball while in high school. He went to many diff. colleges, don’t know if he ever rec’d. a degree, had interest in father’s sporting goods store. res. Cambridge, OH when they went to visit sister & he d. of stroke on golf course. bur. Graceland Cem., New Castle, PA
2) Florence Nevada Wright (6/11/1909-1983) m. 1936, Joseph Nealy McGown, m. by groom’s father in Mt Lebanon Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh, PA, went to Vero Beach, FL ca. 1944 to remodel & manage motels there then was in State College, PA doing same, then returned to FL. Florence bur. Graceland Cem., New Castle, PA

g.  Eliza Jane Wright (4/22/1893-7/3/1945) m. 5/26/1915, Harold Max Mark (9/22/1890-2/15/1956) son of William Albert & Eva (Esch) Mark, of Titusville, PA. Her father, Rev. J. Esch, m. Eliza & Harold. They met at Slippery Rock College. Harold became teacher in one-room school who taught his brother in Titusville, then worked for PA RR, m. at 833 E. Washington St., New Castle, PA. C. Joseph Wright, member Wesleyan Meth. at Wetley Rocks, Eng., was living at home with Samuel Cooper in 1837. In 1840 at Abbey with Mr. Steele, still there in 1847, unmar. but might have m. after that time. He wanted to send Stephen to America
D. John Wright, m. with 1 ch. in 1840, had 4 ch. in 1847, a prosperous butcher, went to Newport market every fortnight, had law suit over water rights in 1851
E. Stephen Wright, m. with ch. while working in Yorkshire, Eng. at new railway in 1840, not a spiritual person. In 1847 he was in Scotland near Perth working as timekeeper for railway, had not brought family from Leeds in Yorkshire as he did not like country. Came to America &  res. on farm in Sandy Lake area owned by brother, Sampson,  in 1880, he was mentioned in Sampson’s will
F. Francis Wright, was working with Samuel Cooper at nail making in 1840. He was member of Wesleyan Society at Werrupton, Eng.
G. Elizabeth Wright, lived at home in 1840, not much help to her mother, still with them in 1847, member of church at Laughton, Eng. where she worked in 1847. In 1851 res. Cobridge with Mr. Turnival where she worked.
H. Mary Cooper, went to live in Hauley in 1840, res. with S. Cooper & wife in 1847, member Methodist Society in 1847
I. Sarah Cooper, in school in 1840, res. & worked at Mrs. Martin’s place in Broad Oak. member Methodist Society in 1847
