Col. James VROOMAN

BIOGRAPHY: On April 18, 1819, he was on a list of persons entitled to patent grants for the allottment of land as a Private in the Glengarry Foot. He was granted 200 acres as the son of a U.E.L.. This was likely lot 6 concession 7 in Brock which was transferred from the Canada Company to him on January 12, 1837. Part of this lot became the plan for the Village of Vroomanton. He also owned the E 1/2 of lot 4, concession 7 in Brock Township.
In his petition for land, April 13, 1819, James of the Township of Niagara, yeoman, son of the late Adam Vrooman of the Township of Niagara, never had any lands except 100 acres as a soldier in the late Glengarry Regiment. He received the E 1/2 of lot 1, concession 3 (100 acres) in Drummond Township, Lanark County, in the Rideau Military Settlement at Perth, beside his
brother, George. He sold this lot about 1818 and arrived in Brock Township, Ontario County about 1820, along with his brother, George. Source: Gord Dawson e-mail
