Ziegler School

1856 to 1951 Albee District 1

In 1856 the very first school in Albee Township was a room in the log home of Seth Spraque on the northeast corner of Burt and Bishop roads.  Seven scholars were taught by Anna Spraque.  An offering was taken by the families paying her $1.00 a week.  Later (date not known) Joseph Fairchild gave an acre of his farm for a school house where the Zielger school is today.  The men cut logs off the place and built a one-room log school house, which was used until the building of the public school, prior to the one now in use.  This frame building was used as the school until 1893.  It was then sold to Emerson Hill, who used it for a grainery.
