John Woodburn's insolvent farm had been privately sold but the sale had not been enough to pay his debts. He owned an interest in the Urbana Female Seminary (also called the Female College Institute), which was located in Urbana on Lot Numbers 274-292 (19 lots). John owned 1/6 and the other partners were: Henry Crabill, Edmund R. Glenn, Wilson Dallas, William Dunlap and Samuel Johnston. Woodburn also owned 1/6 of Lot Numbers 14 & 48 in Sidney, Shelby County, Ohio and 1/6 of land located in Wood County, Ohio:
west half of north-west quarter and west half of south-west quarter, Section 11 Township 5 North and Range 6 East and the south-east quarter of Section 5 Township 3 North Range 9 East. John's heirs were: Nancy Jane Woodburn, widow; James Dallas Woodburn; John Lemuel Woodburn; Margaret Ellen Woodburn and Skiles Woodburn of Pennsylvania. All of the children were minors.
