CHANCERY RECORDS OF THE COURT OF COMMON PLEAS .Record Book 11, Page 181 - Heard October Term 1829 - Petition for Partiti on Joseph Powell and Martha, his wife Vs William Johnson, Nancy Johnson, Alfred Johnson, Polly Johnson, Noel (one t ime was Noella) Johnson and Delila Johnson Edward Johnson died about six or seven years ago, and his widow died abo ut two years ago. William Dunlap was the guardian of the six minor children, however, James Dunlap Sr. was appointed guardian ad litem. Edward Joh nson owned 163.22 acres in the south-west quarter of Section 3 Township 5 Range 11 which he received by patent; 80.20 acres in the north ha lf of the south-east quarter of Section 9 Township 5 Range 11, which he re ceived by deeds from heirs on 11 June 1826, Arthur Stephenson, Martha Minnich, David Stephenson and Anna French; 61.67 acres on the south side of the north-east quarter of Section 7 Township 5 Range 11 which he receiv ed by deed dated 22 March 1815 from John Winn and wife; 80 acres locat ed in half (south-west quarter and north-east quarter) of south-west quart er of Section 9 Township 5 Range 11 which a patent was granted to Edward J ohnson and James Dunlap; and north half of south-east quarter of Secti on 7 Township 5 Range 11 (all Urbana Tp.) which he received by deed dat ed 1 June 1829 from John Winn and his wife. The court appointed appraisers, William Vance, William H. Fyffe and Robert Barr, made their repo rt on 16 February- 1830. The sheriff' s sale was dated 2 May 1830. The 1 63.22 acres was valued at $5.00 an acre and purchased by John Osborn at $3 .50 an acre. The 80.20 acres was valued at $5.00 an acre and purchas ed by Edward Osborn at $3.42 an acre. The 61.67 acres and the land in Sec tion 7 was valued at $14.00 an acre and purchased by Joseph Powell at $9. 33 1/3 an acre. The 80 acres in Section 9 was valued at $4.00 an acre; t he south-west quarterwas purchased by Joseph Powell at $2.50 an acre a nd the north-east quarterwas purchased by John Osborn at $3.00 an acre.
