Edwin Fay (9/22/1794 - 10/1876) And his Descendants |
This line came to my attention when I was shown a book on ebay titled This Infernal War: The Confederate Letters of Sgt. Edwin H. Fay, Ed. Bell Irvin Wiley with the Assistance of Lucy E. Fay, University of Texas Press, 1958. I purchased the book, thinking--as it turned out, erroneously--that the Edwin H. was Edwin Horace Fay, the father of Herbert Wells, with whom I had already done some work (my results can be seen here.) Sgt. Fay, however, is Edwin Hedge Fay, his middle name derived from his mother's maiden name. |
I turned to Edwin Hedge and researched his family. I had already found considerable material through my work with the census records, various other online vital records, and selective use of family trees and biographies, when I discovered three excellent biographies at The Handbook of Texas Online, a joint project of The General Libraries at the University of Texas at Austin and the Texas State Historical Association. These biographies, which can be seen on that site, are: |
Albert Bel Fay | Charles Hemphill Fay | Edwin Whitfield Fay |
The author of these biographies is Mary Smith Fay; and the line which includes Edwin Hedge turns out to be the line so carefully and thoroughly researched by Mary and reported in her book, Edwin Fay of Vermont and Alabama, 1794-1876: His Origins from 1656 and His Descendants to 1987 (1988). |
