Note: The name "Palace" puzzled me, until I saw one of her young nieces in the census of 1850, where the name is spelled "Pallas"!

Note: Orlin says that the first child of Harrison and Sarah Oaks was Sarah. In the vitals of Southbridge where the family was, there is no mention of a Sarah who survived. However, in the census of 1860, there is a 13 year old Sarah L. Fay staying with Louisa Pebbles; and next door is George H. Fay, staying with his grandmother Babcock. This Sarah would have been born about 1847. That WOULD fit with the dates we know. Orlin may not have known of the son born in 1845; and it is also possible that it was not a SON, but was rather a daughter and is, in fact, Sarah. When the birth of that child was registered in the vitals of Southbridge April 14, the original entry was "Emily Ann Putney". However, apparently someone realized that the Fay child should be entered at this point in the record, so an attempt was made to erase the previous entry and "Fay" was written clearly at the end of the line, and Emily Ann was duly noted in the next line. The sex of the Fay child is given by ditto marks from a previous entry "Male". Emily Ann started to be "Male" but was then changed to 'FeMale"--the usual writing is "Female." It could well be that the Fay child should also have been changed to FeMale or Female.

Note: Orrill (there are several variants of the name) was Dexter's second cousin, the daughter of Joseph G. and Creusa Fay, granddaughter of Levi (Orlin, page 175). I have not been able to trace Eugene and Merrick beyond 1870.

Note: Louisa and Fitz do not seem to have had children. They did provide a home for Sarah, and in 1870 for John, born 1856, and Mary, born 1853. I am not sure who the latter two are.
