NICHELSON, ROBERT

The Nichelsons of Southwestern Pennsylvania

Robert Nichelson is the earliest ancestor reported to me by a distant cousin. His son, William, resided in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, after his marriage. William's sons, Benjamin, David, Samuel, William, Henry and Jacob fought in the Civil War according to records that have been found. Their other children were: Simon Reese, Julian, Sarah, Magdalen, Phebe and Franklin.

David Nichelson (also found his records under Nickelson and Nicholson) was born in Milford Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, on December 18, 1834, and was a resident of Springfield Township, Fayette County, by the time his children were born. He died on July 6, 1910. He and his wife, Mary Ann Hall, are buried at the Normalville Cemetery. Their son, John Hall Nichelson, (1856-1934) and his wife, Phoebe Ann Murray, (1860-1934) are also buried at Normalville while their son, Wesley Braden Nichelson, (1882-1957) and his wife, Ella Mae Shirey, (1884-1975) are buried at the Scottdale Cemetery in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Their daughter, Erma Grace (1913-1967) and her husband, Raymond Michael Suchocki, (1910-1983) are also buried at the Scottdale Cemetery.

The photo shows five generations of the Nichelson Family: Mary Ann Hall Nichelson is sitting on the right with her son, John Hall Nichelson, standing behind her. His daughter, Molly Nichelson Wingrove, is holding her first grandson, Harry Wingrove, while her son, Charles Wingrove, is standing behind her. Photo was taken in 1921. Mary Ann died in 1922.

I was born in the Fay-West area of Pennsylvania (along border of Fayette and Westmoreland Counties) where I spent my childhood. Here is my line of descent from Robert Nichelson:
