PRINKEY, JOHN

The Prinkey Family of Southwestern Pennsylvania

The first to arrive in America spelled the name, "Pringey," or so it is found in early records. John arrived in Philadelphia on August 15, 1750 aboard the ship, Royal Union. His son, John II, was born in 1772 in Somerset County, PA and is buried in the cemetery at Old Jersey Church, Lower Turkeyfoot Twp, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. He first married Catherine Schneider who bore him four children before her death about 1802. He then married Abigail, the daughter of Catherine Storms and George Rhodes, a veteran of the Revolutionary War. John and Abigail had eight children.

The youngest child of Catherine was John Prinkey III, born in 1801, Somerset County. He married Eve Miller, the daughter of Elizabeth Sanner and Jonathan S. Miller of Berlin, Pennsylvania. John III and Eve relocated to Fayette County sometime after their marriage at Berlin, Somerset County, and are buried in the Indian Creek Cemetery, Mill Run, Pennsylvania. Some of their children are buried at the Normalville Cemetery.

I was born in the Fay-West area of Pennsylania (along border of Fayette and Westmoreland Counties) where I spent my childhood. My line of Prinkey descent follows:

1) John Pringey/Prinkey m. (unknown) 2) John Prinkey II m. Catherine Schneider/Snyder 3) John Prinkey III m. Eve Miller 4) Elizabeth Prinkey m. Josiah S. Murray 5) Phoebe Ann Murray m. John H.
