This Davenport Family first surfaces in Southwestern PA when Joseph Davenport is recorded as paying 6 cents tax on a cow in 1822. Census records of South Huntingdon Township suggests that he is the father of:
Thomas Davenport b. 1808 was a bachelor school teacher in the 1846-47 school term at Barren Run School near Smithton, PA.
William Davenport b. 1817 d. 1855 was a farmer. He moved his family to Marietta, Ohio in 1855 to work, but died of diptheria on 1 July 1855 leaving a wife and six children. He lies in an unmarked grave at the Mound Cemetery in Marietta, Ohio while his wife is buried at the Barren Run Cemetery in South Huntingdon Twp. Westmoreland Co. PA beside her parents, Andrew Rowe and Susanna Freed.
Eleanor "Nellie" Davenport b. 1821 d. 1898 She married Abraham Rowe b. 1816 d. 1893 a brother of Elizabeth Rowe. This couple is buried at the Barren Run Cemetery in South Huntingdon Twp. also.
Lewis Davenport b. 1823 married Sarah(unknown) b. 1825. I have no knowledge and can only speculate that he is a sibling of the others.
Samuel Davenport b. 1825 He was found in the 1850 Census living close to the others so I am speculating that he is a sibling.
Other genealogists have stated that the Davenports came from England, but I cannot determine the origin of this family.
