HAUGHT, PETER

The Haughts of Ohio and West Virginia

Peter Haught/Haut b. ca. 1720 and his wife, name unknown, came to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from Roterdam, Holland on Sept. 9, 1751 aboard the British ship "Patience." Their daughter, Elizabeth b. 1745 came with them. They settled in what is now West Virginia in 1754. The unknown wife died after giving birth to Peter Haught II, b. 1 July 1755. The exact date of her death is unknown. Eventually Peter married the daughter of a neighbor, Rebecca Tennant, and his daughter, Elizabeth, married her brother, Richard Tennant.

Peter Haught's three brothers came to America in the 1750's: William Henry Haut (always used the German spelling) settled in Philadelphia, PA; Tobias Haught lived in West Virginia; Paul Haught lived in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, but two of his sons claimed land in West Virginia.

My husband, who was born in Ohio just across the Ohio River from where most of the Haughts settled in West Virginia, is descended from the following:

1) Peter Haught and unknown wife 2) Tobias Haught m. Catherine Hensel 3) Elijah A. Haught m. Anna Weaver 4) Tobias Jackson Haught m. Lydia Ann Cross 5) Bertha Rose Haught m. Norman David Hanlon 6) Harold Clinton Hanlon m. Kathryn Nancy Martin 7) Donald Emerson Hanlon m. LaVonnee Rae Suchocki (me)
