MARTIN, JOHN

The Martins of Southeastern, Ohio

John Martin Sr. was born ca. 1775 in Greene County, Pennsylvania. Speculation is that he is the father of John Martin, Jr. who married Eleanor Baker, the granddaughter of John Baker, a Revolutionary soldier and Indian fighter who lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.

Henry Martin and his three brothers joined the Civil War together and three of them were present when Gen. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse, VA. Robert had been taken prisoner and died of typhoid fever at the Florence Prison Camp. He is buried along with many others in a mass grave at Florence, SC.

My husband, who was born in Ohio, is descended from this Martin Family:

1) John Martin, Sr. m. unknown 2) John Martin, Jr. m. Eleanor Baker 3) Henry Martin m. Lydia Ann Mahalia Dickerson 4) Jacob Martin m. Catherine Edwards 5) Emmitt Emerson James Martin m. Bessie May Joy 6) Kathryn Nancy Martin m. Harold Clinton Hanlon 7) Donald Emerson Hanlon m. LaVonne Rae Suchocki (me)
