Isaac Henry Sanders Captain Born April 7, 1823 in Bedford County, Tennessee and enlisted as Captain in September, 1861.  He was 5 feet 10 inches tall.  Wounded at Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862 and sent home on furlough.  Resigned on August 11, 1862 due to personal problems and the injuries.  Re-enlisted February 17, 1863 as private.  Was elected 2nd Lt. Company F, 38th Alabama on August 1, 1863 so was granted discharge from 26th Alabama on August 8.  When Captain Sydney Smith found out he was still a private in the 38th he requested Sanders back which was granted.  Present at Andersonville.  Wounded in action at Peachtree Creek, Georgia on July 20, 1864 and returned.  Wounded in left upper thigh by grapeshot at battle of Franklin on November 30, 1864 and captured in Franklin Field Hospital on December 17, 1864.  Admitted to U.S.A. Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee on December 23, 1864 and upon recovery sent to Camp chase on January 9, 1865.  Eventually sent to at Point Lookout Prison where he was paroled on June 12, 1865 at age 42.  Resided in Melbourne, Lamar County in 1907 Census and in Columbus, Mississippi in 1911.
Thomas T. Taylor Captain Born Spartanburg District, South Carolina.  5 feet 10 inches tall.  Appointed 1st Lt. December 7, 1861.  Wounded at Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862 and sent home on furlough. Promoted to Captain while on furlough August 11, 1862.  Assumed command of Company when he returned March 31, 1863. Killed at Chancellorsville on May 3, 1863 at age 42.  Deceased claim filed by his widow Mary S. Taylor from Big Pond, Fayette County, Alabama.  She later filed for widows pension in Hot Springs County, Arkansas in 1893. 
Robert Cleveland Rector 2nd Lt. Born April 22, 1833 in Greenville District, South Carolina and enlisted as 2nd Lt. September, 1861.  Wounded at Seven Pines on May 31, 1862 with wound to large tendon in left thigh just above knee.  Sent home on furlough, returned in November still lame and admitted to 3rd Alabama Hospital on November 12, 1862.  Resigned November 16, 1862.  Re-enlisted in Lloyd's Co., Roddy's Cavalry as private until disbanded in Selma, Alabama May, 1865.  Filed for pension February 18, 1898 in Lamar County, Alabama after the war and lived in Vernon.
David Ballenger  
 
Capt. On sick leave early 1862 and reported back to duty August 17, 1862 and promoted to 2nd Lt.  Put in command of Company from August 17, 1862 to March 31, 1863 with promotion to 1st Lt. when Rector resigned in November of  1862.  Promoted to Captain when Taylor killed at Chancellorsville May 3, 1863.  Hit six times at Gettysburg without drawing blood.  Granted leave due to problems at home on August 19, 1863.  Returned after 24 days. Resigned his commission on October 12, 1863.  Signed up with Hamptons Legion of South Carolina shortly after and served till end of the war.  Lived in Tigerville, South Carolina by April 8, 1888.
D. M. Gideon Capt. Enlisted December 7, 1861.  Promoted to 2nd Lt. October, 1862.  In command of Company at Sharpsburg (Ballenger ill) on September 17, 1862. Promoted to 1st Lt. on November 15, 1862, 1st Lt. on May 3, 1863.  Present at Andersonville in April, 1864.  Wounded with gunshot in middle third of left thigh at Ezra Church on July 28, 1864 and admitted to Ocmulgee Hospital in Macon, Georgia.  Given 60 day furlough.  Captain by November 30, 1864.  Led 26th Alabama Regiment at Nashville after Captain J. W. White and Lt. Col. Garvin were wounded at Franklin.  Signed Oath on May 17, 1865 in Columbus, Mississippi.
William A. Wright 1st Sgt. Promoted after South Mountain.  Captured at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863 and then sent to Fort Delaware.  Arrived there the second week of July and escaped from there shortly after.  Younger brother by 2 years of Pvt. Benjamin F. Wright of Co. I.
Thomas T. Hilburn 1st Sgt. Born in North Carolina and enlisted December 7, 1861.  Wounded at Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862 and sent home on furlough. Never returned and arrested as deserter and returned to Regiment by T. Boyd on March 30, 1863.  Present at Andersonville as private.  Paroled on May 30, 1865 in Columbus, Mississippi.
J. P. Gideon 1st Sgt. Promoted from 2nd Sgt. to 1st Sgt. on August 17, 1862.  Killed in action at South Mountain on September 14, 1862.
L. S. Bobo 2nd Sgt. Enlisted December 7, 1861 as private.  Admitted to Chimbarazo Hospital on May 10, 1862 for hernia and transferred to Lynchburg.  Slightly wounded in left side at Seven Days that didn't require hospitalization.  Present at Andersonville as 2nd Sgt.
Albert A. Ayres 3rd Sgt. Born in Fayette County and enlisted August 1, 1861.  Promoted to 2nd Sgt. on August 17, 1862.  Killed in action at South Mountain on September 14, 1862 at age 22.  Deceased claim filed by his widow Catherine J. Ayres.
Layton J. Hilburn 4th Sgt. Born in Spartanburg District of South Carolina and enlisted on December 7, 1861.  Wounded in left arm at Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862 at age 20 and it was amputated.  Detailed to Invalid Corps and retired on October 22, 1864 out of his post in Selma, Alabama.
William A. Jackson 4th Sgt. Born in South Carolina and enlisted December 7, 1861 and present at Andersonville as 5th Sgt.  Died of wounds received in action around Atlanta on August 13, 1864.
Aaron Godfrey 5th Sgt. Born April 24, 1839 in Kingston, Cass County, Georgia and enlisted December 7, 1861.  Wounded at Chancellorsville on May 3, 1863 and present at Andersonville as 5th Sgt.  Wounded again at Franklin on November 30, 1864 but served throughout.  Paroled on May 30, 1865 in Columbus, Mississippi.  Resided in Millport, Alabama after the war and attended Reunion 
William S. Sanders Musician 
1st Cpl.
Born 1835 in Bedford County, Tennessee and enlisted on July 4, 1861 as musician/private.  5 feet 10 inches tall.  Wounded at Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862 and admitted to Howards Grove Hospital.  Given 30 day furlough on July 10, 1862.  Promoted to Cpl. on July 31, 1862.  Wounded at Fredericksburg as 1st Cpl. on December 13, 1862 and admitted to 3rd Alabama Hospital on December 15, 1862 and transferred to Howards Grove on January 8, 1863 after contracting Variola.  Died of Small Pox on January 23, 1863 at age 28.  Deceased claim filed by his widow Jane Sanders on April 24, 1863 with John Sanders Power of Attorney.  Middle brother of Cpl. John Sanders (older) and Captain Isaac Sanders (younger).
J. T. Morrison 1st Cpl. Enlisted on December 7, 1861 as private.  Captured at Gettysburg July 1-3, 1863 as 1st Corporal.
William W. Maddox 2nd Cpl. Born February 14, 1833 in South Carolina and enlisted as private on December 12, 1861.  Wounded with gunshot wound at Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862 and furloughed for 40 days on July 13, 1862 to Columbus, Mississippi.  Returned to duty on August 31, 1862 and present at Andersonville as 2nd Corporal.  After war he died of injuries sustained when thrown from his horse on January 5, 1890 in Lamar County and was buried in Union Chapel Baptist Church near his farm.  His wife Mary Elizabeth Maddox was granted widow's pension in Lamar County on August 9, 1899.
William A. Crawford Cpl. Enlisted December 7, 1861.  Wounded at Sharpsburg on September 17, 1862 and sent home on furlough.  Detached to Invalid Corps in which he resigned on September 21, 1864.
James M. "Mart" Hankins Cpl. Killed in action at Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862.  "shot through and can't be found" in L. S. Bobo  letter to his uncle.  Deceased claim filed by L. A. Hankins on March 4, 1863.  Brother of William Burton Hankins.
David W. Robinson Cpl. Born in South Carolina about 1841.  Admitted to Danville Hospital as private due to diarrhea on July 2, 1862 and returned to duty on July 16.  Killed in action at South Mountain on September 14, 1862.
John D. Sanders Cpl. Captured in Kanawha County, Virginia after deserting on September 1, 1863.  First sent to Antheneum Prison in West Virginia near Wheeling and then received at Camp Chase on September 18, 1863 and transferred to Rock Island on January 22, 1864.  Residence listed as Big Pond, Fayette County, Alabama and 28 years old.  Took Oath and tried to enlist in U. S. service on October 11, 1864 at age 27 but was rejected.  Applied for pension in Pontotac County, Mississippi in 1895.  His widow S. D. Sanders later applied for pension in Sharp County, Arkansas but was rejected.
Charles Alford Taylor Cpl. Born in Spartanburg District, South Carolina on March 12, 1838 and enlisted as private on December 7, 1861.  Admitted to #21 hospital in Richmond, Virginia on October 14, 1862.  Wounded and captured at Gettysburg as Corporal on July 1, 1863.  Released from Fort Delaware June 14, 1865 at age 24.  Listed residence as Fayette County, Alabama.  More than likely brother to Captain Taylor.  Filed for pension in Lamar County, Alabama after the war and lived in Covin, Alabama in 1921 Census.  Died December 19, 1923 and is buried in Wesley Chapel Methodist Cemetery in Covin.

John P. Ballenger  Pvt. Born in Spartanburg District, South Carolina and enlisted on December 12th, 1861.  Wounded in Battle of Seven Pines on May 31, 1862 and admitted to St. Charles Hospital, Richmond, Virginia.  Died June 16, 1862 at age 22.  Deceased claim filed by his father John Ballenger.  He and Jasper were brothers.
Jasper Ballenger Pvt. Born in Spartanburg District, South Carolina and enlisted September 9, 1861.  Killed at Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862 at age 37.  Deceased claim filed by his widow Sarah.  John and Jasper were Captain David Ballenger's cousins.
George D. Boyd Pvt. Admitted to Ocmulgee Hospital in Macon, Georgia for diarrhea on June 3, 1864 and returned to duty on June 17. 
J. J. Butler Pvt. Wounded with gunshot wound in action late 1863.  Transferred and admitted to Chimbarazo Hospital on May 8, 1864 and died on May 29, 1864. 
James William Clark Pvt. Born in Virginia and enlisted December 7, 1861.  Captured at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863 and sent to Fort Delaware.  Listed on roll of prisoners desirous of joining U. S. Service and joined 1st Connecticut Cavalry.
Wilson A. Cook Pvt. Born in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama and enlisted December 7, 1861.  Discharged July 24, 1862 due to Chronic Rheumatism in right ankle at age 41.
J. C. Corder Pvt. Enlisted December 7, 1861.  Wounded in Chancellorsville on May 2, `1863 with gunshot wound to hand with loss of two fingers.  Given 60 day furlough to Fayette County, Alabama on June 4, 1863.  Admitted to Howards Grove hospital on November 12, 1863 due to debilitates and transferred to Chimbarazo on January 29, 1864.  Present at Andersonville.

A. James Alfred Guin Pvt. Born April 24, 1845 in Fayette County, Alabama and enlisted August 7, 1861.  Died in Tuscumbia, Alabama on February 1, 1862 at age 17.  Buried in Old Guin Cemetery in Lamar County.  Deceased claim filed by his father Bartley J. Guin on July 9, 1862.

Solomon Richard Hall Pvt. Born October 22, 1845 near Vernon, Fayette County, Alabama.  Enlisted May, 1863 and served until wounded with grapeshot wound to head fracturing skull at Battle of Franklin on November 30, 1864.  Captured while in hospital at Franklin on December 17, 1864 and sent to U.S.A. Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee on December 25.  Imprisoned at Point Lookout, Maryland upon recovery.  Paroled June 6, 1865 but admitted to U.S.A. Marine Hospital in Mobile, Alabama on June 18, 1865 due to fever and released on August 1 at age 19.  Resided in Vernon, Alabama after the war.
A. J. Hankins Pvt. Born in Fayette County, Alabama and enlisted August 30, 1861.  Admitted for hernia and then detailed as nurse in Winchester Hospital but died on December 14, 1862 at age 25.  Deceased claim filed with Jeff Pennington as power of attorney.
Isom Green Hankins Pvt. Born in 1834 and enlisted on April 25, 1862.  Wounded in Battle of Seven Pines May 31, 1862 and eventually died in the 2nd Alabama Hospital on July 16.  Buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia on July 16, 1862 in Section H, Grave #133. Deceased claim filed by his widow Sarah Hankins.  He was the brother of John Franklin and 1/2 brother to William Burton and James Martin Hankins.
John Franklin Hankins Pvt. Admitted to Hospital #18 (formally Greeners Hospital) in Richmond, Virginia due to Jaundice. Transferred to #12 Hospital due to Typhoid and died on June 21, 1862.  Buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia on June 22. Deceased claim filed with Jeff Pennington as power of attorney.
J. S. Hankins Pvt. Admitted August August 24, 1862 for Typhoid in Hospital #21 in Richmond, Virginia.  Given 30 day furlough on September 3, 1862 and never returned.
William Burton Hankins Pvt. Born March 6, 1846 in Fayette County, Alabama and signed up for 6 months in October, 1862.  After enlistment was up he re-enlisted July, 1863 in Lloyd's Co. 10th Alabama Cavalry.  Paroled in Moscow, Alabama spring of 1865.
John Thomas Harrison Pvt. Wounded in leg at Gaines Mill on June 27, 1862 and admitted to Chimbarazo on June 30, 1862.  Furloughed 40 days on July 13 to Columbus, Mississippi..  Captured at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863 and received at Fort Delaware on July 6.  Took oath and paroled on June 14, 1865 to Fayette County, Alabama.
William F. Harrison Pvt. Admitted to Danville Hospital in Virginia on October 29, 1862 and died there on December 8, 1862.  Younger brother by 2 years of John Thomas Harrison.

D. W. Miller Pvt. Enlisted after April, 1864.  Admitted to Way Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi due to diarrhea on February 14, 1865 and given furlough.
W. W. Moody Pvt. Wounded in chest at Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862 and admitted to Chimbarazo from Field Hospital on July 8, 1862.
Wilson J. Moore Pvt. 6 foot 1 1/2 inches tall.  Enlisted December 7, 1861.  Attached to Chimbarazo Hospital as nurse on February 3, 1863 until February 16, 1864.  Present at Andersonville.  Wounded in back (actually a little lower if I read the medical jargon correctly) at Battle of Peachtree Creek on July 20, 1864.  Given 60 day furlough and captured in Fayette County and sent to Alton Prison.  Signed oath on October 21, 1864 and promised to stay north of Ohio River for remainder of war.  Confederate Army learned this and counted him as a deserter.
Wm. Lewis L. Murphy Pvt. Born in South Carolina.  Enlisted on September 5, 1861.  Died June 30, 1862 at age 31 and deceased claim filed on August 14, 1862 by his widow Nancy Jane Murphy.

Jeffrey C. Pennington Pvt. Born in Fayette County, Alabama and enlisted March 16, 1862.  Wounded in both legs at Chancellorsville on May 3, 1863.  Admitted to Moore Hospital in Richmond and had left leg amputated below the knee.  Transferred to 3rd Alabama Hospital on May 25 and then transferred to Howards Grove on August 5.  Roll of Honor at Chancellorsville.  Special order 131/3 dated October 3, 1863 for Medal of Honor. Discharged from service at age 20 on September 30, 1862.  Attended Regiment reunion on August 8, 1900 in Guin, Alabama.
J. A. Powers Pvt. Admitted to Chimbarazo Hospital Complex in Richmond, Virginia on February 9. 1863.
Perry Ray  Pvt. Enlisted December 12, 1861 from Fayette County, Alabama.  Named in Ballenger letters as cook.  Captured at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863 and sent to Fort Delaware on July 7.  Signed oath on June 14, 1865.  Applied for pension in Pontotac County, Mississippi in 1895 and his widow N. E. Perry applied there in 1916.
James E. Rector Pvt. Born in Fayette County, Alabama and enlisted September 3, 1861.  Killed in action at Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862 at age 21.  Deceased claim filed by his father Jeremiah E. Rector.  Older brother of Jesse F. Rector.
Jesse F. Rector Pvt. Born in Fayette County, Alabama and enlisted December 7, 1861.  Discharged from service on August 14, 1862 at age 18 due to damage to his lungs from pneumonia and then typhoid.
T. J. Saxton Pvt. Admitted to Chimbarazo on March 30, 1863.
John Scisson Pvt. Born Union District, South Carolina and enlisted December 7, 1861.  Discharged from service on August 5, 1862 due to diarrhea and hemorrhoids and died shortly after at age 54.  Deceased claim filed on May 19, 1863 by widow.

Lewis W. Taylor Pvt. Born in Fayette County, Alabama and enlisted December 7, 1861.  Died of measles while in Tuscumbia on December 15, 1861 at age 16.  Deceased claim by his brother Thomas on July 9, 1862.  This would be Captain Taylor.
J. L. Watson Pvt. No other record of him except paroled in Talledega, Alabama on May 22, 1865.
Jesse Jones Wheeler Pvt. Born January 1, 1822 in Spartanburg District, South Carolina and enlisted December 7, 1861.  Admitted to Chimbarazo on March 3, 1862 out of #9 Hospital due to pneumonia and transferred to Huguenot Springs Hospital on April 13.  Given 60 day furlough to recover from pneumonia and anasarca on October 8, 1862.  Received pay on way home in Atlanta, Georgia on October 11.  Received pay in Columbus, Mississippi on March 21, 1863.  Counted as absent without leave since July 28, 1863.  Died October 10, 1895 in Lamar County, Alabama.
David "Newton" Wheeler Pvt. Born September 11, 1837 in Fayette County, Alabama and enlisted December 7, 1861.  Wounded at South Mountain on September 14, 1862 and was in Columbus, Mississippi in on March 21, 1863.  Wounded with gunshot wound to left leg partially injuring tibia bone while posted as skirmisher at the Battle of Bristoe Station, Virginia on October 14, 1863.  Admitted to #9 Hospital on October 18 and transferred to Alabama Hospital on October 19.  Given 60 day furlough home to Big Pond, Alabama on October 28, 1863.  Patient in Madison Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama in April, 1864.  Rejoined Regiment and surrendered as member of Company E, 1st Alabama Consolidated Regiment at Greensboro, North Carolina on April 26, 1865.  Applied for pension in Fernbank, Lamar County, Alabama.  Died May 5, 1913 in Lamar County, Alabama .

Listed as Missing at the Battle of Sharpsburg on September 17, 1862.  More than likely captured and exchanged.  Killed in action at Chancellorsville on May 3, 1863.  Widows relief filed by Amanda F. Williams on May 7, 1887 in Alabama.  She then applied for pension in Monroe County, Mississippi in 1910.
