This is the published obituary of Mary E. (Penoyer) Riggs, formerly of Godfrey (1818-1908) which ran in the Alton Evening Telegraph, 16 May 1908, page 2, following her death on 10 May 1908 in Aurora, Illinois. The obituary has several fact errors, including the years of her birth and marriage, the time she and her family first came to Chicago, and where she was living at the time of her death (it was Aurora, not Chicago). She and her family also spent more than just "a few years" at Godfrey, Illinois. Neverthless, her obituary preserves a great deal of biographical and genealogical information about Mary and her family. This copy of the obituary was supplied by Colleen Stutz, a descendant of a brother of Benjamin C. Smith, husband of Anna Laura Riggs (1855-1901), one of the daughters of Albert and Mary (Penoyer) Riggs.
