Two of the young women here are Kate Terpening (upper left) and her sister Cora (lower right). The other two are unknown. No photographer identified. The photo was probably shot around 1892.

This woman is identified as Mrs. Mathews. The photographer was W.D. Fay of Joilet, Illinois. I believe her to be Sarah Ann Broadbent. daughter of Joseph. Likely a 1st cousin of my GG-grandmother, Ann Broadbent. See page 5 for a photograph of her son and daughter-in-law "Joe Mathews & wife".  The Mathews family dropped the "w" and spelled their surname Mathes about this time.

The man on the left is Edward C. Schumacher, my great-grandfather. I don't know who the other man is. The photo is a tintype shot about 1882 to 1884. E.C. worked for the Illinois & Central railroad in his 20's.

This is a "Potters Patent" tintype it was taken in the early 1860's. He is unidentified. However, he bears a strong resemblance to some of the children of Margaret Jane (Terpening) Stewart. Margaret's husband was George Stewart. George died in 1875 in Louisiana. The Stewart children were raised in McLean County, Illinois, near Cropsey.

This is another Potter's Patent tintype. It was taken in the early 1860's. The album which contained it has this identified as Charles Schumacher (father of E. C. - above). However it doesn't much resemble two other photographs I have of him. Charles died at the age of 47 in Dec 1873 in Rogers Township, Ford County, Illinois. This person resembles some of Charles nephews - the Thunemann family of Kendall County, Illinois.

[28 Sep 1999] I've decided that this is actually a photograph of George Schumacher, a son of Charles. He appears to be a young teenager in this photograph. This means it would have been taken around 1870 or so.

This photograph was taken in Kankakee, IL. I guess around 1900. Photographer is Powell Studio

This family is somehow related to my Farey great grandparents. On the back of the photo is an inscription: "With Best Love & Wishes To Albert & Louise." Albert W. H. Farey and Louisa Jane Roberts were married in Northampton, England on 18 May 1902.  The parents in this photo may be Thomas Blason and Harriet Farey who were married in Northampton on 27 May 1901.

These three individuals are three separate ovals mounted on the same card stock. The photographs were taken in Kankakee by Voss probably around 1905. The woman in the center appears in another photograph on the next page
