In February 1781, he enlisted from Jaffrey, NH into the service of the United States as a Pvt. for the term of 3 years, and proceeded to head quarters near West Point, NY, where he was drafted into Capt. Gilman's Company in the regiment commanded by Col. Scammell, and he served faithfully against the common enemy during the whole of the said term of 3 years, and was honerable discharged at West Point
