The Royal Notary at Trois-Rivieres, has undersigned the contract of marriage that will be performed and solemnized before Our Mother the Holy Catholic Apostolic and Roman Church, between Maurice Rive, native of the parish of Coignac in the city of La Rochelle, son of the late Jacques Rive and of Marie Dieuray, his father and mother, on the one part; and Marie Cusson, native of the parish of Cap de La Magdelaine, daughter of Master Jean Cusson, Royal Notary at the said Cap, and of Marie Foubert, her father and mother, on the other part. Were present in person the said contracting future spouses, their family members and good friends, in whose presence the said Cusson and Marie Foubert, her father and mother, promised to give in marriage the said Marie Cusson, their daughter, to the said Maurice Rive, and the said Marie Cusson, promises and has promised faith and loyalty in marriage freely and without constraint to the said Maurice Rive, who has promised and promises by these presents to take as his wife and lawful spouse the said Marie Cusson, as soon as it can be done, if God and Holy Mother Church consent and grant favour. In consideration of which the future husband and wife, the said Maurice Rive and Marie Cusson, future spouses, have consented and agreed to live together as one, had to hold in common all their possessions immediately after the said marriage is ratified and consummated. In this community they will hold all their goods and possessions whatsoever. In particular, the said Marie Cusson, future bride, will receive from the said Maurice Rive the customary dowry according to the city, district, and county of Paris. It is agreed between the said parties that should the said Maurice Rive come to die without children issued from the said future marriage, that he has given and gives to the said Cusson all of his goods, furnishings, and real properties, both acquired and cleared, including those acquired before the ratification of the said future marriage, for her to enjoy in perpetuity, and she shall take possession of them immediately upon the demise of the said donor. But if the said Cusson comes to die without children issued from the said future marriage, the remainder of her goods shall revert to her heirs. And if God grants them children, both parties individually and severally have agreed and have consented to abide in all circumstances by the usages and customs of Paris. All of these presents have been agreed to by the said contracting future souses, obliging, and giving faith. Done and passed at Cap de La Magdelaine this seventh day of January one thousand six hundred and seventy one, before noon, in the presence of their family members and good friends who have assisted them. Namely, on the part of the said Maurice Rive, were present Charles Gardeur, esquire, Sieur of Villiers, and Demoiselle Jeanne De Mattar, his wife, Adrien Saillot, called La /?/, Court Officer at the said Cap de La Magdelaine; on the part of the said Marie Cusson, were present Sieur Jean Cusson, her father, Marie Foubert, herr mother, and Marie Riviere, her grandmother, Jean Cusson her brother, Michel Pelletier Sieur and Lord of Cote Saint Michel, and Jacqueline Chamboy his wife, Jeanne Aunois, widow of the late Master Pierre Lefebvre, Jacques Lefebvre and Marie Beaudry his wife, Michel Lefebvre, Ignace Lefebvre, Joseph Desportes, all family members and good friends.

Notaire royal aux [Trois] Rivieres soubzsigne au traicte de mariage qui au bon plaisir des [contractants] sera faict et solennize en face de Nostre Mere Saincte Eglise Catholicque Apostolicque et Romaine entre Maurice Rive natif de la parroisse de Coignac en la ville de la R[ochelle] fils de deffunct Jacques Rivee et de Marie Dieuray [ses] pere et mere d'une part, et Marie Cusson, natisve de la paroisse du Cap de la Magdeleine, fille de maistre Jean Cusson, nottaire royal audict Cap, et de Marie Foubert ses pere et mere d'autre part, furent presents en leurs personnes lesdicts contractants futurs espoux, leurs parents et bons amis presence desquels ledict Cusson et Marie Foub[ert ses] pere ont promis de bailler en mariage ladicte [Marie] Cusson leur fille audict Rive laquelle Marie Cusson [promet et a] promis foy et loyaute de mariage de son bon gre et volo[nte] audict Maurice Rive, lequel a promis et promet par ces presentes prendre en mariage pour sa femme et legitime espousse ladicte Marie Cusson le plustost que faire se pourra si Dieu et nostre mere la saincte eglize y consent et accorde en faveur en contemplation duquel futur mari [et femme] lesdicts Maurice Rive et Marie Cusson futurs espoux ont consenty et accorde vivre ensemblement uns et communs en biens incontinent apres ledict mariage accomply et consomme en laquelle communaute ils ont [octroyes] tous leurs biens generalement quelconques en particulier ladicte Marie Cusson future espouse ses droicts et ce qu'il [pourra lui] echoir par succession desquels [ladicte] Marie Cusson future espouse ledict Maurice [Rive sera] contente lequel a doue et doue sa future esp[ouse] douaire coustumier de la ville prevoste et vicompte de Paris est accorde entre les dictes parties que si le dict Maurice Rive vient a decedder sans enfants issus dudict futur mariage il a donne et donne a ladicte Cusson tous ses biens meubles et immeubles acquests et concquests acquis tant avant que constat ledict future mariage pour par elle jouir a perpetuite, et en prendre possession incontinent apres le deceds dudict donateur. Mais si ladicte Cussoon vient a decedder sans enfants issus dudict futur mariage le restant de ses biens retournera a ses heritiers et si Dieu leur donne des enfants ils ont consentty et accorde de part et d'autre s'arrester en toutes circonstances aux us et coustumes de Paris le tout ainsy accorde entre les dicts contractants et futurs espoux obligeant et [donnant] foy.
