Dorsetshire At a Meeting of his Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants of the said County of Dorset and Justices of the Peace of the same County held at the House known by the sign of the 'Antelope Inn' in Dorchester for the said County for the Subdivision of Dorchester on Saturday the fifth day of February One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Three (being the second Meeting held in and for the said Subdivision and Fixed at a General meeting held the Twenty Sixth of October last) for carrying into further execution the Act of Parliament made in the second year of his present Majesty's reign entitled an Act to explain amend and reduce into one Act of Parliament the several laws now in being relating to the raising and training the Militia within that part of Great Britain called England.

This Meeting having been fixed for the purpose of the Discharge of the men belonging to this Division discharged from the Dorsetshire Regiment of Militia since the last Ballot for the said Subdivision and intended on such confirmation to have immediately chosen by Lot so many men as would supply such vacancies, but many difficulties arising with respect to the power vested in us by law to ballot for men to supply vacancies of those who belong to other County's where three years Service has not yet expired and as there are in any other doubts of the legality of such intended proceedings We think it convenient and necessary and order that the business of the Meeting be referred to the next Meeting to be held ---illegible----General Meeting held the 26th October last.

At a Meeting of His Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants and Justices of the Peace of the County of Dorset held at the house known by the sign 'Antelope' in Dorchester in the said County for the Subdivision of Dorchester on Friday the Twenty Second day of April One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Three being the third meeting held the twenty sixth day of October last for carrying into further execution the Act of Parliament made in the Second Year of the Reign of his Majesty King George the Third entitled An Act to explain amend and reduce into one Act of Parliament the several Laws now in being allotting to the raising and training the Militia Forces within that part of Great Britain called England.

We thinking it convenient and necessary to add together (agreeable to the resolution of the General Meeting held the 19th day of December 1759) the Lists of the several Parishes, tything's or places contained in their respective Districts in the said Subdivision of Dorchester do order to render our proceedings as equal and impartial as the natures and circumstances of things can possibly admit ---- And Whereas it appears that the several persons who are hereunder mentioned have been legally discharged from the Dorsetshire Regiment for just cause or have been entitled to their discharges from serving as Militia men in the said Regiment by their term of three years service being expired or promoted ----Serjeant according to the said recited Act therefore pursuant to the power vested in us by law we do hereby confirm the discharges of all and every such men from serving in the said Militia and instead of the men so legally discharged and of those who have died since the last ballot for this subdivision belonging to the same subdivision and of those promoted as aforesaid have this day chosen by lot the several persons likewise hereafter specified to supply such vacancies according to the number of vacancies in each District.

At a Meeting of His Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants of the County of Dorset and Justices of the Peace of the same County held at the house known by the sign 'Antelope' in Dorchester in the said County for the Subdivision of Dorchester on Saturday the 7th day of May In the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Three for carrying into further execution the Act of Parliament made in the Second Year of present Majesty's Reign entitled An Act to explain amend and reduce into one act of Parliament the several Laws now in being relating to the raising and training the Militia Forces within that part of Great Britain called England.

The following is the names of persons who have appeared before us this day that have been chosen by lot (at the last meeting for this Subdivision) to serve as Private Militia men in the Dorsetshire Regiment of Militia or consented to serve as substitutes for persons so chosen and have now taken the oath and been enrolled to serve in the said Regiment for the term of three years agreeable to the Act of Parliament in such case made and provided

The above named Persons were sworn and enrolled to serve as Private Militia Men in the Dorsetshire Regiment for the term of three years -- The following Persons not having been yet able to provide themselves substitutes we allow them further time for that purpose until the next Meeting to be held for this Subdivision Vizt Richard KERLEY of Blandford Blacksmith, Thomas BOWER of Stowerpaine butcher, Thomas SHERFIELD of Tolpuddle carpenter, and George HOLLAND of Melcombe Regis cooper -- And several of the Persons chosen at the last Meeting for this Subdivision on their appearance are decreed incapable of serving as Militia Men (Vizt) James WAITE of Pimperne Warnership being very infirm in his thigh, Thomas ANDREWS of Cerne Abbas having been formerly chosen and then provided a substitute , James NOTLEY of Bincombe who is a cripple, Edward CHANNING of Puddlehinton subject to fits, Lewis TALBOT of Wyke Regis being a poor infirm man and hath 5 children, And William MOGE of Milbourne Churchstone went away out of the County long before chosen.

WE order that the next Meeting for this subdivision be held at the 'Antelope Inn' in Dorchester aforesaid on Saturday the fourteenth day of May Instant. Witness our Hands

At a Meeting of His Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants and Justices of the Peace of the County of Dorset held at the house known by the sign 'Antelope' in Dorchester in the said County for the Subdivision of Dorchester on Saturday the 14th day of May in the year of our Lord 1763 for carrying into further execution the Act of Parliament made in the Second Year of the Reign of his Majesty King George the Third entitled An Act to explain amend and reduce into one act of Parliament the several Laws now in being allotting to the raising and training the Militia Forces within that part of Great Britain called England.

Substitute approved and sworn with their occupation: Edward BISHOP, labourer; place of abode Forthington [i.e. Fordington] ; Person for whom substitute serves : George HOLLAND age 22 single

The above mentioned Person was sworn and enrolled to serve in the Dorsetshire Regiment of Militia for the term of three years - Thomas DOWLAND Junior of Shaftsbury who at the late Meeting for the Subdivision of Sturminster neglected to appear was ordered to attend here this day but it appearing unto us by a Certificate from the Mayor of Shaftsbury as otherwise that he is excused of serving as a Militia Man being poor and has seven children -- Richard KERLEY of Blandford Blacksmith and Thomas BOWER of Stowerpaine butcher who at the last Meeting for this subdivision was allowed time till now, appears to have provided substitutes at the last subdivision Meeting held at Sturminster -- We allow and confirm the above Witness our Hands

At a Meeting of His Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants and Justices of the Peace of the County of Dorset held at the house known by the sign 'Antelope' in Dorchester in the said County for the Subdivision of Dorchester on Tuesday and Friday the 24th and 27th days of May in the year of our Lord 1763 for carrying into further execution the Act of Parliament made in the Second Year of the Reign of his Majesty King George the Third entitled An Act to explain amend and reduce into one act of Parliament the several Laws now in being allotting to the raising and training the Militia Forces within that part of Great Britain called England.

The above named Persons were sworn and enrolled before us ---(illegible section) --- substitutes from and in the place and stead of those persons above ---(illegible section) --- as in the Dorsetshire Regiment of Militia for the term of three years - Witness our hands
