At Stratford, on Saturday afternoon the son of Mr and Mrs J R Nairn, residing on the Stuart Road, was drowned in a dam. His mother and father saw the little chap at about 3 30pm going towards the milking shed. It was not until 6 30pm, that the body was found in the dam.

David Noakes, Farmer of Greytown, died on the 8th of November 1869.

NOBLE.
James Noble of the Waikato Militia, was struck by lightning while sitting in the outhouse on Captain Salmons farm, near the Gallaway Redoubt at Totara, Lower Wairoa. Witnesses on the inquest describe that a report was heard, something like that of a gun, but more violent. This occured on Wednesday evening, 1863, about 5 O,Clock. The deceased was much scorched and his shirt and flannel were burning when he was discovered about a minute after. This is the first instance on record of death by lightning in New Zealand.

H J Osborne, New Zealand Field Engineers, was admitted to No.15 General Hospital, Alexandria, suffering from a shrapnel wound in the thigh. He was convalescent and sent to England on September 18th. On Wednesday last he cabled to his father Mr J Osborne of Hamilton, that he had been discharged from hospital and had to report himself for duty in a fortnight's time. Sapper Osborne, who left with the 4th reinforcements, was an old Thames boy and previous to enlisting was on the staff of Messrs Ellis & Burnand, Hamilton.
