William Maxwell Gaddis married Mary Kathryn (Kate) Welte.
At the outbreak of the Spanish American war he joined the army and served with the 21st regiment of Kansas Volunteers Co. H. where he was a Corporal.

In 1902 William was appointed to the Indian School in Nebraska where he taught farming.  Later he was appointed Superintendant of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in South Dakota until 1906

This picture of William Maxwell Gaddis was taken around 1940 when he was about 67.  Probably taken in Independence, Kansas.  He is a very handsome man upright, honest, hardworking and ever loving to his family.  He was a great man of stature.
