OWEN ANDREW DUTTON
"Prof. Owen A. Dutton was born July, 1893, died
Feb. 15, 1936, while teaching at Sunshine. He was widely known and loved
by many friends, as his teaching took him into the communities of Mt.
View, Lampasas County; Pleasant Valley,
Hurst Ranch, Shive, and
Sunshine.
He spent his early life at Evant, served in the World
War, secured his college education at Southwest Texas State Teachers
College at San Marcos, where he received his B. S. Degree in 1933.
He married Miss Nina E. McWhorter in April, 1926, who
also was attending S.W.T.S.T.C, lacking one summer’s work in order to
obtain a B.S. degree.
They were blessed with a baby daughter, Shirley June...
... Their home is in the Lund Valley community, Pro. Dutton being united
with the Center Valley Baptist Church.
Mrs. Owen A. Dutton is now teaching
at Sunshine, as she plans to continue her teaching career.
This brief summary of Prof. Owen A. Dutton is given in
rememberance and for the benefit of all his pupils who love him and may
secure this book.... ..."

In 1924-25 Owen Dutton taught in the one-teacher
Pleasant Valley School., No. 14 when Dennis Payne and J. C. Courtney were
on the school board. Sadness struck the Sunshine School on 15 February,
1936, with the death of a teacher, Owen A. Dutton. Other teachers at
Sunshine in 1936 were Nina E. McWhorter Dutton (widow of Owen A. Dutton),
Dale Douglas, and LaNelle Fitzgerald. Sunshine
School, No. 4 was about
five miles southeast of Carlton and eleven miles northwest of Hamilton
near the Tillinghast Cemetery and near CR 113.
