THE BEST WE EVER HAD
Across the Fence
By Arvord Abernethy
“The best we ever had.” That is an expression we have heard over and over concerning the Dove Festival.
Really, don’t you think that expression of opinion is correct? When you consider the attendance which was larger, and when you noticed the expression of enjoyment on their faces, don’t you think it was the best? And did you notice how well they all behaved themselves? When you consider the attractions and entertainments that were going on practically all the time, don’t you think it was the best?
Hope you took time to see the quilt and antique show at the Hamilton National Bank. There were not only many beautiful and old quilts and spreads, but there were many antiques also. Cecil and Sue Nix had covered a table with many old hand tools. Several that I did not know what they were used for. Cecil may tell his grandchildren that they were tools that he worked with as a younger man, but my guess is that he accumulated many of them while living with those mountaineers in the Ozarks.
