THUNDER, RAIN, & MOWING

Across the Fence

By Arvord Abernethy

As that thunder boomed out and those rain clouds skirted around Hamilton Sunday afternoon, I’m sure many of you wished strongly, as I did, that they would come over. I water our lawn fairly well, but nothing can do for a lawn what a good rain can.

When it comes the time of the week to mow the lawn, I’m about a 13 or 14 year old boy standing in front of a mirror and looking at his beard. He is really proud of every little bristle sticking up, yet he knows that it will look better in the eyes of a certain little lass if it is cut off. But he wonders if it is really worth all the trouble and lather he will use.

Even though a cup or two of gasoline will mow our lawn, I almost find myself using the price of gasoline as an excuse for not clipping those few blades of grass. But I always feel prouder of the looks of the lawn after the job is completed, so feel that it is worth the trouble.
