BAPTIST COVE SCHOOL

BAPTIST COVE SCHOOL in School Land Cove was near the Baptist Branch of the Cowhouse, south of Pottsville. It was named Baptist Cove because most of the families who settled in that area were Baptists

In 1958 Mrs. G. W. Hurley, Sr. recalled that the first school house was on the Johnnie Jackson place (owned by Price Kinsey in 1958). One of the first teachers was Mrs. Ridenhower and another teacher was John Blackman.

Baptist Cove School
was moved to the Fred Riewe place (owned by Arthur Riewe in 1958). Baptist Cove School consolidated with Willow Springs School  in the School Land Cove. Another school building was erected on the William Kemp place (owned by Arnold Gromatzky in 1958). Finally Baptist Cove and Willow Springs were consolidated with Indian Gap and Pottsville Schools
