Barkleys honored on 50th anniversary
Mr. & Mrs. Bill H. Barkley, Sr.
celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a family party
Saturday, June 26. They were married on June 26, 1943, in Wichita, Kan.,
in the First Methodist Church by the late Dr. Thomas A. Williams. Bill
was attending the University of Wichita in the College Training
Detachment of the Army Air Corps during World War II. Claudine was the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Fergusson of Hamilton and worked in the
courthouse in the office of County Judge S. R. Allen, Sr.
After serving three years in the Air Corps,
one year of which was on Guam, Bill returned and they attended the
University of Texas at Austin. Bill graduated in January, 1949, with a
BBA. He graduated from the SMU Graduate School of Banking in 1968. After
spending 37 years in banking in the Midland National Bank and the
Hamilton National Bank, Bill retired last year as Chairman of the Board.
Saturday evening the family enjoyed a picnic
on the lawn of the Barkley home and a swimming party at the city pool.
Sunday they attended church services at the First United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Georgia Adamson preaching. They then dined at the
Pecan Creek Inn Restaurant.
Those present were: Ima Fergusson; Dr. Hal
and Vicki Barkley, Brent and William; Dr. Robert Barkley, Daniel and
Rachel; Dr. Sara Stone; Todd Barkley; Ima Jean and Wallace Dunson,
Jr.; Dan and Anna Dunson, Amy and Aaron; Thomas and Judy Dunson, Joel
and Tyler; Daniel and Babette Dunham. Amanda, Krista and Karley.
The Dunsons have one other daughter who was
unable to attend: Suzette and Dale Bordner, Rhett and Cassandra; and one
grandson, Troy Dunson, Lubbock.
